Science-backed BAC

A real-time blood alcohol estimate built on published pharmacokinetics (Widmark/Seidl model), not a naive standard-drink counter.

Food-aware curve

Log meals and the model slows absorption and lowers the peak the way your body actually does, grounded in calorie-controlled gastric emptying research.

🎯

Personal calibration

Enter real breathalyzer readings and CheersCount fits your personal elimination rate, shrinking the estimate toward your physiology.

⏱️

Automatic sessions

Sessions start with your first drink and end when your estimated BAC returns to zero, fully automatic, nothing to start or stop.

Safety timers

Sober-at and back-below-your-driving-limit countdowns: always visible, never behind the paywall.

Trends & stats

Clear charts, heatmaps and summaries of your consumption over an evening, a week, a month or a year.

Real-time blood alcohol level

The feature we're most proud of: a BAC engine that gives you insight into what your body might be experiencing. It models absorption, food and your personal elimination rate, and shows sober-at and safe-to-drive countdowns that are never behind a paywall.

BAC chart

Backed by published science

Every constant in the BAC engine is traced to peer-reviewed alcohol research, and the app is honest about what an estimate can and cannot tell you.

A real pharmacokinetic model

One-compartment model with first-order absorption and zero-order (Widmark) elimination, the standard description used in forensic and clinical alcohol research. Your distribution volume comes from the sex-specific Seidl et al. (2000) height/weight regression rather than a one-size-fits-all constant.

Food & beverage strength matter

Logged meals slow absorption and lower the peak via calorie-controlled gastric emptying (Hunt 1975; Ramchandani 2001), and absorption speed follows the non-monotonic concentration effect: fastest around 20-30% ABV, slower for both beer and neat spirits (Roine 1991; Mitchell 2014).

Calibrated to you

Elimination defaults to the population mean of 0.15 β€°/h (Jones 2010) with adjustable presets, and if you log real breathalyzer readings, CheersCount fits your personal elimination rate from the decline phase of your curve.

Honest about uncertainty

Individual BAC varies Β±20-30% from any population model, so the chart shows an uncertainty band instead of pretending to be exact. The estimate is educational, never a fitness-to-drive test or a medical instrument.

Why CheersCount?

Built by a solo developer from Austria (where drinking is a deeply ingrained part of social life) after seeing firsthand how easy it is to lose track of how much, and how often, we drink.

The goal isn't to judge or preach, but to offer a friendly, accessible way to track, reflect and understand the impact of alcohol, and to encourage healthier decisions, whatever that means for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is CheersCount?

A simple, personal alcohol tracking app that helps you understand your drinking habits through clear data and reflection, without preaching or judgment.

How does CheersCount calculate blood alcohol (BAC)?

CheersCount uses a one-compartment pharmacokinetic model from the forensic alcohol literature: first-order absorption from the gut and constant-rate (Widmark) elimination, with your distribution volume estimated from the Seidl et al. (2000) height/weight regression. The model accounts for beverage strength, logged meals (calorie-controlled gastric emptying) and your personal elimination rate, which you can calibrate with real breathalyzer readings.

Can I use the BAC estimate to decide whether I can drive?

No. Individual BAC varies Β±20-30% from any population model, which is why the app shows an uncertainty band around the curve. The estimate is educational: it is never a fitness-to-drive test or a legal/medical instrument. When in doubt, don’t drive.

How do I track a drink?

On the Home tab, pick a drink from your list and tap the drink icon. That's it, your session and stats update instantly.

What is a drinking session?

A session is the timespan during which your estimated blood alcohol level is above 0 ‰. It starts with your first drink and ends automatically when you return to zero, no manual start or stop.

Can CheersCount help me drink less?

Yes, without turning it into a program. You can set a weekly dry-day target, a weekly alcohol-unit ceiling (one unit = 10 g pure alcohol) or a monthly budget, watch your alcohol-free streak on the Home screen, and get a definitive recap every Monday. Stats also highlight dry streaks, heavy days and your solo-vs-social split, so you see your real patterns without judgment.

What does CheersCount cost?

The core tracker is free: unlimited drink logging, automatic sessions, live BAC value and safety timers, goals and streaks, Cheers Wrap recaps, history and stats, JSON/CSV export and destructive JSON account-data import. CheersCount Pro, from $2.99/month or $22.99/year, with a one-time lifetime purchase through Stripe on the web or Google Play on Android, adds the live BAC curve chart, unlimited drink templates, custom icons, expense tracking, chat and posting session stories. Every new account starts with a 30-day Pro trial.

Where is my data stored?

On a self-hosted backend in the EU (Germany), operated directly by the developer. Sign-in is via Google only, there are no ads and your data is never sold or shared with ad networks. You can export the covered tracking data as JSON/CSV for free at any time.

Is CheersCount an alternative to Sunnyside, Reframe or the Ava alcohol tracker?

Yes, if you want to track and understand your drinking rather than follow a coaching or sobriety program, CheersCount is a direct alternative. It focuses on science-backed real-time BAC, automatic session tracking and privacy. Read our detailed comparison with Sunnyside, Reframe, Try Dry, DrinkControl, AlcoDroid and I Am Sober on the blog.

Which platforms does CheersCount run on?

CheersCount is a web app (installable PWA) that works on any modern browser, plus a native Android app on Google Play.
